a time in America before politicians made everything illegal, and lawyers got filthy rich sueing everyone for everything, when a plane landed downtown

in the late 1930's in downtown Arcadia, on Baldwin Street, and no one had a hysterical fit, no one was sued til they were homeless, no one was jailed, and no one lost a job.
A mechanical problem caused the pilot to put it down so he could make a quick repair, he fixed the problem, the cops were nice enough to clear the road and he took off and went away.
What a nice place America used to be.
A 90 yr old friend of mine told me about a squadron of airplanes landing on a country road near Galveston Texas, getting refuled, and carrying on to their airfield. Nothing but a country day in the 1930's.

Coolest looking airplane shark's grin I've ever seen, the Adios Airlines from the Coburn movie "High Risk", movie sucks though

funding ran out for this ground effects cruise missle carrying seaplane

this aircraft used the ground effect – extra lift of large wings when close to the waters surface, a maximum of three meters above the sea but at the same time could provide take off, stable “flight” and safe “landing” in conditions of up to 5-meter waves. These were originally developed by the Soviet Union as high-speed military transports, and were based mostly on the shores of the Caspian Sea and Black Sea.

I'd love to go see these gas stations with fighter planes and bombers

Above and below are the same place, six miles south of Portland Oregon

Cool airplanes interest almost everyone.

I wasn't sure what the aircraft on the ground was (above it you see the B52 that it used for piggy back rides to test altitude) , but 3 readers used the comment feature to let me know it was the Northrop HL 10, used to do flight research on aircraft design for unpowered reentry from space, utilizing the speed of falling to create lift for the controlled flight of the spacecraft. More interesting than the facts of it's intended R&D use, is that it was the featured spacecraft the Million Dollar Man tv show appeared to use as the crash vehicle that made it necesary to create the bionic man. Just a fun tidbit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_HL-10

Amelia Earheart and her Cord
Bombers, love them, love the look, the stories, the awesome amount of turret guns

Old fashioned fuel tankers from the 50's or so... when they had good looking designs

The fairing from the cab that goes to the back of the rear tires is good for aerodynamics, and good for a couple more miles per gallon, but really makes a semi look good

This photographer was taken with this tanker... why else would he take photos of the front and back?
