John Isner American Tennis player bio and pictures

John Isner
John Isner was born April 26, 1985 in Greensboro, North Carolina. His parents are Karen and Bob Isner, and he has two older brothers, Jordan and Nathan.

John began playing tennis at age nine at the Carolina Tennis Academy. After graduating from the Walter Hines Page Senior High School, he attended the University of Georgia. John played tennis for four years at UGA, earned All-American honors each season from 2004-2007, and is the school’s all-time leader in singles and doubles wins. In May 2007, after leading his beloved school to an NCAA team title, he reached the singles final and captured the doubles title in front of his home crowd in Athens.
During his junior year in college, John began considering a career as a professional tennis player, knowing that his skills had developed enough to compete on the highest level. John began playing professional events in 2007. After competing in only a few tournaments, the towering American’s breakthrough came later that summer, when he reached the finals of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington, DC. While en route to his first ATP final, he posted a record five straight wins in a third set tiebreak. Thanks to his incredible week in Washington, his ranking rose to #193 in the world after just six weeks as a pro.

Since his professional career began in 2007, John has been recognized as one of the future stars of American tennis. John has caught the attention from many due to being the only player in the top 150 to attend college for 4 years, having one of the hardest serves, being the second tallest player on tour (6’9”), and his fast rise to a ATP top 20 ranking. Additionally, John holds the record for the longest match ever played in tennis history. His heroic battle at Wimbledon against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut lasted for 11 hours and 5 minutes, and ended with John’s 70-68 victory in the fifth set.

John is currently coached by former ATP pro Craig Boynton (since March 2009) and resides in Tampa, Florida.
